Surfing Gold Coast Kirra Beach
If you want to surf at one of Australia's best surf spots, head south from Surfers Paradise to Kirra Point at the Gold Coast Australia. Between Kirra Beach's rock groyne (Big Groyne) and the more southerly Little Groyne is one of the best fast barrels you will ever get to surf.
Kirra Beach surf is only for the experienced surfer and you have to go out fast or you will miss the break. You will also find paddling out can be a challenge.
Many of the Gold Coast locals just get out at the end of their ride and then head back out to the point before jumping off the point into the action. It is best to observe a local surfer the first few times, before venturing out (only if you are an experienced surfer). Given its legendary status, Kirra Beach can get packed out with surfers if the swell is over 1.5metres.
